Peter is a lunatic drive when he isn’t late and so it was an ashen faced passenger who stepped out of the car in the Slimbridge car park. We met the girls at 1:30pm and drove to the nearby pub for lunch. After the pub meal we ventured into the reserve and I made a beeline for the Holden Tower and, hopefully, a Lesser White-fronted Goose. The hide was jam packed with birders and the fields were jam packed with White-fronted Geese. It wasn’t long before several birders gave me directions for the smaller, daintier and whiter-faced Lesser White-front. Even at long range the yellow eye ring and distinctive shape to the white face patch were noticeable. I was happy, two ticks in one day!
